With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Zander Reed – Lamoni
Lamoni’s Zander Reed just had a knack for finding the end zone in 2019.
Reed scored six rushing touchdowns on 64 carries, adding 478 yards. He also caught 11 passes for 93 yards, with three of those going for six.
On special teams, Reed had one kickoff return among his three times getting to field the ball.
Jack Franey – Martensdale-St. Mary’s
A top basketball player, Jack Franey also gets it done on the football field for Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
The Class of 2021 Franey completed 71 of 141 passes a year ago for 1,128 yards with 14 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He averaged nearly 16 yards per completion with a quarterback rating of 117.6.
O the ground, Franey ran for 111 yards and scored two more times. He also had 25.5 tackles on defense with three interceptions.
Brooks Trom – Martensdale-St. Mary’s
The key to the Martensdale-St. Mary’s offense getting going in 2019 was Brooks Trom, ad he returns in 2020.
Trom had a team-high 647 yards with eight rushing touchdowns a year ago, adding 16 receptions for 276 yards and four more scores. He averaged 5.4 yards per rush and over 17 yards per reception.
On defense, 42 of Trom’s 50 tackles were solo stops as he also picked off two passes and averaged 14 yards per kickoff return.
Steven Krpan – Melcher-Dallas
It was a difficult year for Melcher-Dallas, but the prospects look better on the horizon with the return of starting quarterback Steven Krpan.
Krpan, a Class of 2021 player, completed 51 of 128 for 809 yards with 11 touchdowns last season. He averaged nearly 16 yards per completion and also ran for 243 yards with eight more TDs.
Jace Rodecker – Murray
Murray’s Jace Rodecker had just nine receptions in 2019, but three of them went for touchdowns.
Rodecker had 155 yards, averaging over 17 yards per reception. He also made 18 tackles on defense with 14 being solo stops and three for loss.
Tanner Dierking – Southeast Warren
It was a very productive fall for Tanner Dierking in 2019, as the quarterback threw for 1,091 yards with 23 touchdowns and ran for another 636 and 10 scores.
Dierking completed 65 of 114 passes with just four interceptions, averaging almost 17 yards per completion. He also posted nearly six yards per rush.
On defense, he made 32.5 tackles with five being for loss and returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
