With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Ethan Tye – Central City
With Nick Reid and Isaiah Damm exhausting their eligibility, the Central City offense will lean on Class of 2021 prospect Ethan Tye.
As a junior, Tye accounted for eight touchdowns on just 24 touches on offense. He had 16 receptions for 383 yards with seven scores, adding a rushing touchdown and 34 yards on eight carries.
Tye also made 52 tackles on defense and forced four turnovers.
Cael Frost – Don Bosco
The defending eight-player state champions return one of the top players in the state in Cael Frost.
Frost threw for 1,389 yards with 31 touchdowns and just two interceptions, completing 60 of 105 for 23 yards per completion and a 168 quarterback rating. With his legs, he ran for 1,236 yards and 19 more scores.
The Dons scored a season-high 87 points in Week 2 last year, going over the 50-point mark in 11 consecutive games. That run included 72 points in the playoff opener and 67 in the quarterfinals before a 50-6 win in the semis over Turkey Valley.
Kolton Murphy – Easton Valley
The Easton Valley offense has several holes to fill in 2020, but Kolton Murphy will be back to bring balance to the River Hawks.
Murphy ran for 573 yards with nine touchdowns on just 70 attempts as a junior, adding four receptions for 66 yards and one more score. He posted over eight yards per rush and 16.5 yards per catch.
As a defender, Murphy had 35.5 tackles with eight being for loss including four sacks and a pick-six on his lone interception. Adding to his scoring ways, he also returned two kickoffs for TDs, averaging 24 yards per return.
Spencer DeMean – Springville
Springville running back Spencer DeMean was mean to opposing defenses a year ago.
DeMean carried the ball 188 times for 1,043 yards, scoring 11 touchdowns. He posted 5.5 yards per touch while also adding 20 receptions for 339 yards and five more scores in the passing game.
On defense, DeMean was constantly in the backfield, racking up 45 tackles with 9.5 being for loss including 4.5 sacks. He averaged nearly 31 yards with two kickoff returns for scores.
Aidan Nelson – West Central
For Aidan Nelson in 2019, it did not matter who was lining up at quarterback.
The West Central Class of 2021 athlete found ways to produce, racking up a team-high 522 yards rushing and 512 yards receiving. He scored nine total touchdowns on offense.
Nelson averaged six yards per rush and almost 18 yards per reception. He also accounted for 54.5 tackles, recovered two fumbles, picked off three passes, averaged 19 yards per kickoff return and scored on his lone punt return.
