With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Cayden Fuson – Madrid
When Madrid needed a big play last year, they looked to Class of 2021 wide receiver Cayden Fuson.
Fuson caught eight passes for 218 yards and a score, posting over 27 yards per reception.
On defense, he made nearly 30 tackles.
Jackson Vandever – Earlham
The Earlham offense was run first, run second and run third for the most part in 2019, and it worked, as they racked up 4,276 yards on the ground and 55 touchdowns.
But leader Caleb Swalla has graduated, leaving a major void to be filled.
Jackson Vandever returns to anchor the receiving group after catching nine passes for 285 yards with three touchdowns. He averaged almost 32 yards per reception for the Cardinals.
On defense, Vandever was in on several tackles with three interceptions.
Tony Ayase – Nodaway Valley
A dual-threat in every respect of the term, Nodaway Valley’s Tony Ayase has the potential to have a big 2020 season.
Last year, Ayase ran for 623 yards with five touchdowns, averaging 4.5 yards per attempt. He also hauled in 17 passes for 282 yards with three scores, averaging 16.6 yards per catch.
On defense, Ayase was all over the field, making 71 tackles including 65 solo stops. Of those, 20.5 were behind the line of scrimmage.
Kolby Moorman – Ogden
If Ogden moves Kolby Moorman to the quarterback position, they know they are going to have an exceptional athlete handling the ball on every play.
Moorman caught 30 passes for 426 yards with four touchdowns last year, averaging over 14 yards per catch. He also averaged six yards per rush with a touchdown, while attempting a handful of passes.
The Bulldogs lost quarterback Sam Christensen, who had almost 1,800 yards passing and over 600 yards rushing.
Jakson Cobb – Wayne
Last year, Jakson Cobb caught a team-leading 12 passes for 182 yards with five touchdowns for Wayne, providing a big-time target that constantly found the end zone.
With three players who combined for 23 receptions graduating, Cobb should see several targets in 2021. He also recorded 15 solo tackles on defense and averaged 20 yards per kickoff return while handling kicking duties, as well.
