With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Casey Hanson – Lake Mills
The Lake Mills offense found a key piece in Casey Hanson, using him to rack up yards and touchdowns last year.
Hanson ran for 561 yards on 106 carries, averaging over five yards per attempt and scoring six times. He also hauled in four passes for 70 yards, which equates to 17.5 yards per catch.
On defense, Hanson was in on 39 tackles with 32 being solos and five for loss.
Kristian Holmvig – Nashua-Plainfield
Last year, Nashua-Plainfield had trouble moving the ball on offense, but a bright spot was the play of Class of 2021’s Kristian Holmvig.
The leading rusher for the Huskies, Holmvig ran for 450 yards and scored two touchdowns. He averaged over four yards per carry, which was a yard more than the team posted per attempt.
Holmvig also made 67 tackles on defense including four for loss with a fumble recovery. He averaged 31 yards per punt and handled kicking duties, as well.
Cade Schilling – Mason City Newman
Several parts to the Mason City Newman offense in 2019 were underclassmen including leading rusher Cade Schilling.
Schilling ran for 458 yards and scored seven times as a junior, adding four receptions on offense. He added 38.5 tackles with 29 solo stops on defense and posted over 19 yards per kickoff return.
Cole Negen – North Butler
Cole Negen made an impact last year for North Butler, running for 287 yards and catching eight passes.
He averaged almost four yards per rush and scored a touchdown, but should have more success this season with a year of experience under his belt. Negen also made 55.5 tackles with three being for loss on defense.
Ryan Cole Ryan Cole 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB St. Ansgar | 2021 IA – Saint Ansgar
As part of the dynamic rushing duo at Saint Ansgar, Ryan Cole Ryan Cole 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB St. Ansgar | 2021 IA had a big year.
Cole carried the ball 116 times for 1,143 yards with 20 touchdowns, averaging almost 10 yards per attempt. With Jack Sievert graduating and taking his almost 2,100 yards and 39 touchdowns with him, Cole should be primed for even more in 2020.
As a receiver, he caught eight passes for 155 yards with two touchdowns to lead the team. Cole also made 45 tackles and picked off four passes on defense.
On special teams, Cole averaged 17 yards per kickoff return and 24.4 yards per punt return including two touchdowns.
