With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Levi Sleezer – Alta-Aurelia
With graduation taking some of the top rushers and receivers, the Alta-Aurelia offense will need plenty more from Levi Sleezer.
The Class of 2021 player ran for 199 yards and a touchdown while adding four receptions for 68 yards. He averaged almost seven yards per carry and 17 yards per catch, showcasing his big-play potential.
Sleezer also recorded 45.5 tackles on defense with 4.5 being for loss and 2.5 sacks to go along with two forced turnovers.
Derrick Kirsch – Bishop Garrigan
To get back to where they want to be, Bishop Garrigan will need a big senior season from Derrick Kirsch.
Last year, Kirsch was part of a group effort out of the backfield, running for 392 yards and scoring seven touchdowns. He averaged just over four yards per attempt.
On defense, Kirsch made 25 tackles.
Kellen Murphy – Bishop Garrigan
The role of starting quarterback is expected to be handled by Kellen Murphy this year for Bishop Garrigan.
Murphy saw time at various positions in 2019, rushing for 282 yards and a touchdown while also catching a pass. He made 30 tackles on defense with two interceptions while also handling kick return duties.
Brayden Johll – Manson Northwest Webster
One would expect a big senior season out of Manson Northwest Webster’s Brayden Johll.
Johll carried the Cougar offense last year, running for 726 yards and scoring four touchdowns. He also showcased his hands, catching 14 passes for another 71 yards.
On defense, Johll made a handful of tackles and picked off a pass, while also averaging almost 25 yards per kickoff return and over eight yards per punt return.
Ryan Lang – North Union
Over the past few years, the North Union offense has produced some standout performers.
Ryan Lang looks to continue to add his name to that list after rushing for 854 yards and scoring five touchdowns last year.
The Class of 2021 prospect averaged almost five yards per carry. He also shined on defense, recording 58.5 tackles with 43 being solos and three for loss.
Drew Schaeffer – St. Edmond
St. Edmond found success moving the ball last season when Class of 2021 prospect Drew Schaeffer was healthy.
Schaeffer completed 56 of 138 passes for 734 yards with seven touchdowns for the Gaels, but missed time with an injury. He also was a key member on defense, making 17 tackles, including 15 solo stops.
Kase Baker – St. Edmond
One-half of a dynamic duo for St. Edmond is Kase Baker, as the Class of 2021 athlete ran for 476 yards and scored five touchdowns a year ago.
Baker, who averaged six yards per carry, also caught 22 passes for 290 yards with three touchdowns. On defense, he made 23 tackles and picked off four passes.
Cole Kelly – West Hancock
The number alone was just incredible: 5,312.
That’s what West Hancock ran for as a team last year with a 2,000-yard rusher and a pair of 1,000-yard rushers.
While Tate Hagen and Josef Smith graduate, Cole Kelly returns after a breakout campaign. Kelly carried the ball 124 times for 1,184 yards with 18 touchdowns, and will look to keep the momentum going.
Kelly also made 23.5 tackles on defense with 13 of those being for loss and 3.5 sacks.
