With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Zack Kraft – LeMars Gehlen
As a junior, Zack Kraft was a vital piece to the LeMars Gehlen offensive attack. Kraft hauled in 24 passes, which ranked second on the team, for 347 yards.
Kraft averaged 14.5 yards per catch, making him a constant first-down machine for the Jays and a key target for returning quarterback Ryan Livermore, who will be a junior.
On defense, Kraft recorded 14.5 tackles with 2.5 for loss and also handled some of the kicking duties for Gehlen.
Dawson Schiphoff – Hartley-HMS
Hartley-HMS did not attempt many passes, but when they did, they found success going to Class of 2021 prospect Dawson Schiphoff.
Schiphoff caught eight balls to lead the team, racking up 152 yards and two touchdowns with those receptions. He averaged 19 yards per catch and also had 205 yards on the ground, posting nearly seven yards per carry.
On the other side of the ball, Schiphoff made 27 tackles, with 21 being solos and six for loss.
Connor Smith – Lawton-Bronson
As the starting quarterback at Lawton-Bronson a year ago, Class of 2021 player Connor Smith had several bright moments.
He completed 92 of 173 attempts for 1,127 yards with six touchdowns, averaging over 12 yards per completion and recording a quarterback rating of almost 108. Smith also ran for 65 yards and two more scores on the ground.
Hayden Dahlhauser – Lawton-Bronson
Connor Smith will also have one of his favorite targets back in leading receiver Hayden Dahlhauser.
The Class of 2021 prospect caught a team-high 35 passes for 420 yards with two scores, averaging 12 yards per catch. He ran the ball 28 times for 78 yards with another score.
Dahlhauser was also a menace on defense, making 34.5 tackles with 10 being stops for loss and two fumble recoveries. On special teams, he averaged almost 26 yards per kickoff return with a score and also fielded 10 punts.
Braeden Kamphoff – MMCRU
The transition from eight-player to Class A continues for MMCRU.
Class of 2021 prospect Braden Kamphoff will try to help the Royals in any way he can. Last year, Kamphoff threw for 110 yards and ran for 129, seeing time all over the field.
Kamphoff also made 13 tackles on defense for MMCRU.
Reid Nelson – South O’Brien
There will be several new faces on the field for South O’Brien in 2020, as quarterback Jackson Louscher and 2,295-yard rusher Tristan Wilson have graduated.
Reid Nelson is the leading returning player on offense, having ran for 113 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. He averaged almost nine yards per attempt for the Wolverines, who ran for over 3,300 yards as a team.
Nelson also averaged 15 yards per kickoff return.
