With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Hayden Calvelage – Louisa-Muscatine
With Chase Kruse gone, Louisa-Muscatine could turn to Class of 2021 prospect Hayden Calvelage for more in 2020.
Calvelage carried the ball 121 times for 577 yards, scoring nine times last season. He also caught six passes for another 51 yards.
On defense, Calvelage was in on 57 tackles including 33 solo stops with 11 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
Josh Darbyshire – Mediapolis
Mediapolis graduates leading rushers Klay Foster and Briar Johnson, but that could mean an even bigger role for Josh Darbyshire.
Last year, Darbyshire ran for 527 yards and scored four times, averaging almost nine yards per carry. He added 10 receptions for 113 yards and a score in the passing game for the Bulldogs.
On defense, Darbyshire made 35.5 tackles including 29 solo stops and 10 tackles for loss with three interceptions and a fumble recovery.
But it was on special teams where he stood out the most, averaging almost 35 yards per kickoff return and almost 33 yards per punt return, scoring two more times.
Sam Sieren – Sigourney-Keota
The Sigourney-Keota rush attack last year was one of the best in the state, racking up almost 3,500 yards and scoring 51 times.
While 1,490-yard rusher JD Stout graduates, the Cobras return Sam Sieren, who also went over the 1,000-yard mark.
Sieren, a Class of 2021 standout, racked up 1,122 yards on 140 carries, scoring 13 touchdowns. He averaged eight yards per carry and even hauled in a pass while forcing two turnovers on defense.
Lane Davis – Van Buren County
To improve upon a 1-8 record from a year ago, Van Buren County will need Class of 2021 quarterback Lane Davis to take another step forward.
Davis had several big moments as a junior, completing 53 of 102 passes for 610 yards with five touchdowns. He also ran for 170 yards while making 17.5 tackles on defense.
Davis also led the team with two interceptions.
