Today we will be taking an in-depth analysis into what is sure to be a terror of a defensive unit. Imhotep Institute Charter, a premier Philadelphia Public League team, is headed into the 2020 season with our number one ranked player in each of the 2022 and 2023 classes spearheading a defense loaded with talent at all positions. A total of 12 ranked players on one defensive unit!

A defensive front four that consists mostly of juniors. White and Wylie pair up as the edge rushers and are a handful to block. White, who has received nation-wide attention, is an athletic specimen who still has room to grow. Wylie, who ranks just outside the top ten on our 2022 rankings has substantial upper body strength and moves public-league offensive lineman at ease. Both players play with high motors and intensity. The same goes for Williams and Graham. Williams is more of a tweener who can play anywhere along the defensive line. It isn’t fair how well Williams moves weighing in at 240 pounds. He and Graham, along with [player_tooltip player_id="27209" first="Taleeq" last="Robbins"], who primarily plays offensive line, can challenge any offensive line in Pennsylvania.
Linebackers

[player_tooltip player_id="27571" first="Maurice" last="Beverly"] - 6’0", 200lbs, c/o 2022

Saint Mcleod - 5’10", 203lbs, c/o 2021

Here are two studs who happen to play linebacker for Imhotep but are athletic enough to play safety for their defense as well. Saint Mcleod, a West Virginia University commit, is the energy and heart of the defense. He displays great open-field tackling and is everything you can ask for in a box-safety. The senior is a vocal leader who loves to lay the wood on ball carriers. Beverly is almost the forgotten prospect in this unit. He shows good instincts and read and react ability but needs to be able to play at a high level and consistency play in and play out. He will have time to develop as he is just a junior.

The defensive back group at Imhotep Institute has by far the most depth of any secondary group in Pennsylvania. There are college offers galore amongst this group. [player_tooltip player_id="27730" first="Rahmir" last="Stewart"], a breakout player and one of the more sought out recruits is already getting national attention after his freshman campaign. Stewart is a versatile player who excels when being left on an island as the lone single-high safety. He has wheels and plays downhill, covering ground against the run with great angles, and against the pass showing good range to contest passes downfield. The rest of the starting secondary consists of 3 seniors, two of which are ranked in the top 45 players of 2021. McIntyre, a Pitt commit, is a tall and long-limbed safety/corner who has the ball skills of the group. This secondary loves to hit and play downhill but McIntyre can make quarterbacks pay with his hands and overall awareness.
