Now, the tight end position has turned into a bigger wide receiver role, showing their athleticism in the passing game as well as their ability to block on the edge in the run game.
The state is always producing top tight end prospects, and there are a few who are bound for breakout seasons this fall.
Oscar Delp Oscar Delp 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE West Forsyth | 2022 State GA – West Forsyth – Class of 2022
If there’s one tight end prospect who might explode real soon, it’s West Forsyth’s, Oscar Delp Oscar Delp 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE West Forsyth | 2022 State GA . The big 6-foot-4 220-pounder is a big-time weapon in the passing game, becoming one of the Wolverine’s top options through the air as a sophomore. He’s got some athleticism to go along with his size as he runs a 4.6 40-yard dash and has a 32.5-inch vertical. The size is there, he has reliable hands, and he put out some solid film as a sophomore. The lacrosse star is expected to have another impactful season on the gridiron and could dominate the stat sheet by the end the season.
Thomas Lowman Thomas Lowman 6'3" | 205 lbs | TE Greater Atlanta Atlanta Christian | 2021 GA – GAC – Class of 2021
The 6-foot-3 205-pound rising senior does a little bit of everything for the Spartans, but he really makes a difference as a hybrid TE. He can flex out wide and play receiver if he needs too, but the Gwinnett County native also knows how to be physical and block on the edge of the line. In the passing game, Lowman has reliable hands and deceptive speed. He’s not a burner, and he’s not the biggest TE prospect you’ll find in the state, but the kid loves football. He’s a gamer. He does his job the right way each play and also helps a little on defense.
As a junior, Lowman caught 27 passes for 372 yards and four touchdowns. On defense, Lowman made 55 tackles and recorded two INTs.
Devin McGlockton – South Forsyth – Class of 2021
There may not be a bigger red-zone weapon in Forsyth County than McGlockton. At 6-foot-6 220-pounds, the Cumming native knows how to get up and high-point the football. He’s excellent in jump-ball situations due to his size, strong hands, and ball skills. The War Eagle basketball star has a great frame on him with length and solid footwork. He’s a mismatch on the outside in 1-on-1 situations and knows how to come down with a tough catch. He’s hard to bring down in the open field once he gets going, and many programs have taken notice. McGlockton holds offers from Massachusetts, Grambling State, and Kent State.
Stone Bonner – Brookwood -Class of 2022
The 6-foot-4 220-pounder has all the makings of a colligate tight end. He may not have had a breakout year so far, but that could happen this fall as a junior. Bonner is good size, length, and showed plenty of athleticism during Brookwood’s practice earlier this summer. He runs a great route for his size, he shows decent hands, and with one of the state’s top QBs throwing his way in 2020, Bonner has a chance to really make an impact in the passing game. The Broncos have plenty of weapons on offense, but if Bonner gets some single coverage, he’ll have no problem racking up receptions this upcoming season.
