The Titans are coming off a 10-1 season that saw them reach the Class 1A state quarterfinals before suffering a tough 10-6 loss to Van Meter.
For the majority of the past two seasons, Corey has directed the Bryan Case-coached offense. He completed 57 of 102 passes for 887 yards with seven touchdowns and a 128.9 rating last year, adding 193 yards and six scores on the ground.
As a sophomore, Corey completed 50 of 87 attempts for 858 yards with six touchdowns and a rating of 140.3.
While the Titans suffered some key losses, they will have Corey, Blake McAlister, Jordan Khommanyvong, Brennan Holder and several others back to build around.
“I have been staying in shape by lifting, going to speed and agility and working,” Corey said. “I am most looking forward to playing my last season with my friends.”
As for his recruiting, Corey mentioned he has had contact by schools such as Drake, Central, Dordt, Wartburg, Northwestern, Grand View and Loras.
“I haven’t visited anywhere, but I have been invited to quite a few virtual visits and camps,” he said. “The recruiting process has been different because I haven’t talked to any coaches personally or went on any real visits.”
Corey also plays a key role on the vaunted South Central Calhoun defense, a unit that allowed just 34 regular season points a year ago. He made 7.5 tackles, including five solo stops and one tackle for loss as a junior.
Moving forward, Corey is hoping to catch the attention of a college coach to be a quarterback at the next level, adding “If I have the opportunity to play football in college, I hope to play quarterback.”
The Titans have gone 20-2 over the past two seasons, reaching the state quarterfinals both years.
“I am very grateful to play for a football team with such a great reputation,” Corey said. “SCC has the best fans and coaches around. I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else.”
