With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Ryan Navara – Clear Creek-Amana
The name T.J. Bollers comes to the forefront when discussing Clear Creek-Amana, but the Clippers have some pretty solid talent around him.
That includes Class of 2021 quarterback Ryan Navara, who is coming off a season in which he completed 89 of 159 passes for 1,249 yards with 12 touchdowns and a 122 rating.
Navara also added 64 yards and three scores on the ground while making 16 tackles and picking off three passes on defense.
Alex Figueroa Alex Figueroa 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Clear Creek-Amana | 2021 IA – Clear Creek-Amana
Again, no disrespect to T.J. Bollers at all by not mentioning him, but those around the top recruit are pretty good.
Alex Figueroa Alex Figueroa 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Clear Creek-Amana | 2021 IA provides the ground attack for the Clippers. He is coming off a 681-yard campaign that saw him average 5.6 yards per carry and score six touchdowns.
He also had five catches for 80 yards and a score.
Wyatt Hunter Wyatt Hunter 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Grinnell | 2021 IA – Grinnell
One of the top returning running backs in the state calls Grinnell home.
Wyatt Hunter Wyatt Hunter 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Grinnell | 2021 IA racked up 1,589 yards and scored 23 touchdowns last season, averaging 7.5 yards per carry. He also showed off his hands with 15 receptions for 236 yards and two more scores, boasting nearly 16 yards per catch.
Hunter added 41.5 tackles on defense including three sacks. He received an offer from Simpson earlier this year.
Dakota Adams – Newton
Last season, Newton ran 436 times for 2,326 yards with 22 touchdowns. Three players had over 80 carries, but all have moved on.
Dakota Adams received just four carries last year, but those went for 30 yards, making him one of the top returning players. With so many touching the ball last season, one would expect him to have a prominent role in the offense.
Tyler Wilken – Cedar Rapids Xavier
As a team, Cedar Rapids Xavier passed for over 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns a season ago.
Leading receiver Tyler Wilken returns from that group. He recorded 23 receptions for 399 yards with four TDs, averaging just over 17 yards per catch.
Having Wilken back should ease the transition at quarterback after losing Tyler Dupont.
Jack Lux – Cedar Rapids Xavier
A dual-threat for Cedar Rapids Xavier is Class of 2021’s Jack Lux.
Lux racked up 557 yards and five scores as a running back last year, while adding 15 receptions for 175 yards and two more scores as a receiver. He averaged almost six yards per rush and 12 yards per catch.
