With that said, we are going to take a look at the top skill position players from as many districts as possible in the state before fall camps begin.
Some of these players are already receiving college interest, while others are looking to catch the eye of that right coach.
Simon Weitz – Davenport Assumption
Last year, Davenport Assumption had two receivers go over 200 yards. One has moved on, leaving Simon Weitz as the top target for whoever handles the quarterback position.
Weitz hauled in 18 passes last year for 231 yards, averaging just under 13 yards per reception. He was unable to reach the end zone, but that will likely change this season.
On defense, Weitz recorded 24.5 tackles including 14 solo stops with two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He helped out on special teams, averaging 30 yards per kickoff return including a 96-yard touchdown while also averaging 40.6 yards per punt.
Henry Bloom – Central DeWitt
Dual-threat quarterback Henry Bloom was all over the field for Central DeWitt this past fall.
Bloom completed 94 of 171 pass attempts for 1,252 yards with 11 touchdowns. He averaged over 13 yards per completion and had a rating of 116.5 under center.
With his legs, Bloom added another 270 yards and three scores for the Sabers, who ran for over 1,400 yards as a team.
Bloom also showed off his leg as the Central DeWitt punter, posting a 38 yard average per kick.
Treveon Bailey – Clinton
The best friend for a young quarterback is a solid receiver, and Clinton’s Jai Jensen has that in Treveon Bailey.
Bailey hauled in a team-leading 32 passes last year for 382 yards, scoring three touchdowns. He averaged just under 12 yards per catch, adding another 46 yards rushing on three carries.
Charlie Fair – Dubuque Wahlert
The controls of the Dubuque Wahlert will be in the hands of Charlie Fair this fall.
Last season, Fair completed 33 of 76 passes for 481 yards with three touchdowns. He helped the Golden Eagles post wins over West Delaware, Clinton and Marion last season, with two of those coming on the road.
