With Georgia becoming the new “QB factory” of late, it’s easy to see why so many receivers have started to make a name for themselves. While many are emerging, some are still on the cusp of breaking out. Here are a few guys who are likely to have big seasons in 2020.
Logan Johnson Logan Johnson 5'6" | 155 lbs | WR Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 GA – Prince Avenue Christian – Class of 2021
Size isn’t everything, and upcoming senior Logan Johnson Logan Johnson 5'6" | 155 lbs | WR Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 GA is a prime example of that. One of the state’s leading receivers, Johnson caught 62 passes last year for 1,621 yards and 18 touchdowns. He’s a monster on the football field, but many schools won’t give him a chance at the next level due to his 5-foot-8 170-pound frame. His agility, reliable hands, shiftiness, and ability to create separation alone should have earned him multiple offers by now. He’s excellent in the return game, and has 5-star QB Brock Vandagriff Brock Vandagriff 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 State GA throwing the ball to him again in 2020. While many know his name already, college programs need to wake up and give him a shot at the next level.
Paul Davis – Hart County- 2023
The 2023 class in Georgia is already making noise, and you can find one of the best at Hart County (GA) in wide receiver Paul Davis. The young receiver has good size already at 6-foot-2 185-pounds with reliable hands. He’s a natural athlete who also plays centerfield on the Hart County baseball team. As a freshman last season, Davis caught 26 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns in a run-heavy offense. It’s still early for Davis as far as his recruitment goes, but he has the potential to be an SEC-caliber prospect down the road. He’s got the athleticism, the ball skills, the personal drive, and the playmaking ability to become one of the state’s top athletes in the near future.
George Futch – Savannah Chrstian – Class of 2022
This do-it-all athlete is the definition of “under the radar”. An undersized kid playing at a small school, Futch is a great athlete who shows good body control and ball skills. He didn’t light up the stat sheet, but he made some plays that really catch your eye. He can get up in the air and make a tough catch over a defender, and he’s a decent route runner. He’s not the fastest guy, but he’s crafty. He’s got good hands and can also help in the return game. On defense, it’s easy to see that he likes contact. He plays with toughness and always finds a way to make a play.
K.D Hutchinson – Harris County- Class of 2022
One of the most explosive players in west Georgia, the 5-foot-10 175-pound transfer from Valley High School in Alabama is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He’s so quick and shifty, making him a dynamic weapon both as a receiver and as a return man. He’s got some acceleration and can really take off when he’s got some space to run. The Harris County staff is extremely high on this young wideout and have high expectation for him this fall. He’s lethal after the catch but has shown consistent hands as well. He’s a playmaker who can change the game, and his offer sheet is going to really take off sooner than later.
