Every once in a while, a state produces a very dominant class among many of the states in the country. To have a multiple players from a specific position group be very dominant within that state’s class is even rarer. For the class of 2023 in Georgia, the defensive linemen are already showing flashes of dominance. There are multiple players with Power 5 offers, and they each have game changing talent.
On the top of that list is [player_tooltip player_id="34010" first="Justin" last="Benton"], of Newton High School. What’s not to like? Benton is a dominant force on the defensive line, and has no problem getting to the QB. His game changing ability to get off the line will only continue to develop, and must already be scary for QB’s to have to deal with. As a 2023, Benton has already received 12 Power 5 offers. That in itself is impressive.
Our number 2 ranked defensive linemen in the class of 2023 is [player_tooltip player_id="34012" first="Denzel" last="Moore"], out of Meadowcreek High. Moore has received 12 offers as well and is well on his way to receive more attention from college coaches as the years go by. While he plays a bit wide at times, his strength is being able to fire off of the ball and be able to change direction efficiently, helping him get to the ball carrier. Just like Benton, watching him play football over the next few years as well as make a decision for where he will play college football will be very exciting.
Along with Benton and Moore, [player_tooltip player_id="34021" first="Stantavious" last="Smith"] from Dougherty High School is a force to be reckoned with as well. He has recorded 6 Power 5 offers so far, with 3 of them being from SEC schools. These schools include Arkansas, Georgia, and South Carolina. While it is still early in his high school career, he can be seen to be someone who will blow up over time. He has an advanced ability to use his hands while rushing the passer, and has an awareness for the game around him. His ability to fly around the football as a 2023 is something that will get even better with time.
With each of these players, there are more defensive linemen within this class who can be seen to be gems. While we encourage you to watch each of these players’ film, we also encourage you to take a look at [player_tooltip player_id="34024" first="Gabriel" last="Harris"] of Thomas County, [player_tooltip player_id="34031" first="Victor" last="Burley"] from Warner Robbins, and [player_tooltip player_id="34061" first="Ka’Shawn" last="Thomas"] of Brunswick High School. If you love defense, we assure that you won’t be disappointed.
