Camp season is finally back in Georgia, and Hustle Inc. CEO and QB guru Tony Ballard held his QB Clinic this weekend, featuring some top young quarterbacks across the South. As it usually is, the camp was full of young talent at quarterback.
Who were some of the camps top performers? Prep Redzone got an up-close look.
[player_tooltip player_id="33881" first="Bryce" last="Archie"] - McEachern - Class of 2022
The McEachern Indians should see very little drop-off at quarterback after 2021 QB [player_tooltip player_id="33684" first="Carlos" last="Del Rio"] transferred to Grayson. Rising junior [player_tooltip player_id="33881" first="Bryce" last="Archie"] showed off tremendous arm strength during the camp, winning the "long ball" test at the very end with a 60+ yard throw on a dime.
One of the more athletic quarterbacks in the metro-Atlanta area, Archie is also a baseball star for the Indians. As a quarterback prospect, Archie shows above-average footwork, consistent accuracy, and some solid arm strength. He’s put together well at 6-foot-2 175-pound with the frame to continue putting on muscle in his upper-body. With some game film after this fall, offers are expected to come rolling in down the road.
A.J Swann - Cherokee - Class of 2022
Swann is one of the top 2022 QBs in Georgia and he proved it once again at the QB clinic. Swann has really good size at close to 6-foot-3 and 195-pounds and showed good footwork and mobility during drills. The ball really jumps out of his hands, and like Archie, Swann had one of the best "long ball" throws of the day.
As a sophomore last fall, Swann was 188/314 for 2,399 yards and 20 TDs, leading his Warriors team to an 8-5 record. He holds one offer from Troy with interest from many other Power 5 schools.
Dontrell Jackson Jr. - Marist (IL) - Class of 2022
He may not have been the biggest guy, but the 5-foot-10 185-pounder may have been the quickest, most mobile QB at the camp. Not only did he excel in the footwork drills, he showed a strong accurate arm in the passing drills. He didn’t miss many throws, and did each drill better than the time before. He threw the ball with some nice touch and really stood out in the group from time to time.
If he can continue to progress and build arm strength, his mobility and natural athleticism should help him have a big season this fall up in Chicago.
Kamari McClellan - Oxford (AL) - Class of 2024
One of the younger QBs at the camp, McClellan has an elite arm for his age and has the chance to become one of the nation’s top prospects in the entire 2024 class. The 6-foot-1 160-pounder already shows impressive arm strength and knows how to put some zip on the ball. He’s fundamentally sound, he’s mobile, and he has "it" factor that you look for.
Some at the camp say he looks like a young Justin Fields, and although that’s high praise, it’s not much of a stretch. He is so far ahead of other QBs his age, and he is expected to come out swinging and push for the starting job as a freshman for Oxford this fall.
J.C French - Wesleyan - Class of 2022
Another metro-Atlanta QB, French is coming off a solid year for Wesleyan last fall, throwing for 2,902 yards and 32 TDs as a sophomore. At the camp, French showed great footwork and had one of the most accurate arms on the day. He’s got some experience under his belt and he continues to get better and better. His arm continues to get stronger, and if he continues to stay accurate on Friday nights, he’ll have more offers coming his way after his junior year. So far, Wake Forrest and Akron have extended an offer to the 6-foot-0 190-pounder.
