At 6’3 220, he lined up as the eagle’s varsity quarterback as a sophomore. On-film, Zimmer displayed terrific arm strength and good touch on his deep ball. He was calm and composed in the pocket & was in sync with his wideouts. However, what impressed me most about him was his overall athleticism for a guy his size. When running the football, Zimmer consistently ran through arm tackles and was rarely brought down by the first defender. He isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder, and it wasn’t uncommon to see him dragging multiple defenders. With that being said, I think Zimmer is a tight end at the next level and that’s not knocking his quarterback play one bit. It’s so hard to find prospects with his size, speed, and overall athleticism at the high school level. I don’t see it being a tough transition, considering he has experience playing the position, and he understands the game from a quarterback perspective. We caught up with Kevin Zimmer Kevin Zimmer 6'3" | 230 lbs | QB Sandburg | 2022 State IL below!
What have you been doing to prepare this off-season?
“I have been going to throw at throw it deep with a couple of kids on my team to get our rhythm back into place. Along with that, I’ve been working out every day in my weight room and doing agility.”
How did Last Season go for your team?
“The season my team and I went through in a tough conference was not what we wanted, but we had a young team, so we’re ready to roll this upcoming year. Now the pain and struggle my team felt, I feel as if our losing season last year only will help us now.”
How did last season go for you individually?
“Last season was full of ups and downs. I started off as the backup varsity QB and played the first 4 games at the H/fullback position but then ended up winning the starting spot at QB. It was a different feeling going from freshman to varsity, but I’m glad it happened. I feel more prepared than ever.”
What are you most looking forward to in the 2020 season?
“I would say the thing I’m looking forward to the most has to be the teammates and the staff. I can’t wait to get back together and play the game I love. It’s also cool I get to play with my grade again, playing on the new turf being installed.”
What goals do you have for the 2020 season?
“I have many goals for this upcoming season, but one that overlooks the others is the plan on having a winning season and making the playoffs. I feel like once we get some wins under our belt, the only thing holding us back is our confidence.”
What are your biggest strengths?
“My biggest strengths would have to be my determination on and off the field. I’m a driven student and athlete, and I just want to win in what I do. I’m also big on team building and leading my team because if we’re not all on the same page, I see that as a problem for messing up our chemistry.”
What do you think you can improve on?
“I believe I can improve on making better reads along with staying cool under pressure. Also, controlling what I can control and staying in my head.”
What schools are currently recruiting you?
“I haven’t had anyone contact me for football, but I have just started getting in touch with many colleges for wrestling.”
How’s your team looking for 2020?
“We’re a very young team, so it’s gonna take us a little to get everyone flowing together, but I feel like when the time comes, everyone will be hungry to win and will let it fly.”
Are there any of your teammates we should watch for?
“John-Michael Scumaci, remember that name. He’s going to be a senior and he is one of the best athletes on our team and in the school. He’s my wide receiver, and he doesn’t let his size affect him. When looking back on high school, I will remember him as not being afraid to go up to anyone and an all-out baller and warrior.”
What’s something interesting we should know about you?
“I come from a long line of football coaches throughout my family, including my uncle, grandfather, dad, and cousin.
Even my mom back in the day.”
