Elk River wins Week 3 Team of the Week
Elk River is the Northstar Football News Team of the Week after earning more than 45 percent of the fan voting in Week 3.
The Elks won a track meet at Buffalo, scoring 11-straight touchdowns in an 80-70 win. The 150 points are believed to be a Minnesota State High School League record.
“Still seems somewhat surreal, every time I see that score it makes me shake my head,” said Elks coach Steve Hamilton via email. “It was a once in a lifetime game that everyone involved will remember forever.”
The game featured 1,347 yards of total offense between the two teams and lasted almost three hours.. Elk River accounted for 636 yards, all rushing, led by Adam Nelson’s 268. Arik Nordenstrom and Carter Otto also rushed for more than 100 yards, helping the Elks outlast the Bison in an instant classic.
“I was really happy with the team effort,” Hamilton said. “We lost two QBs and two tight ends during the game and the depth on our team really came through.”
The Elks closest competition in the Week 3 voting was Chaska. The Hawks’ win over rival Chanhassen earned them nearly one-third of the final vote.
