The freshman defensive lineman put together a dominant debut season, totaling 85 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks—elite production from the trenches at any level. He saved his best for the biggest stage, earning Defensive MVP honors in the state championship game. Heading into his sophomore year, Cannady is already the unquestioned leader of the defense and firmly on the radar as a future Power 4 prospect.

Cannady burst onto the scene as a freshman with 13 sacks, not only best on the team, but also the best among freshmen in the state. Physically, he’s already looks like an upperclassman and he’s a smooth mover on the inside of the defensive line. I’m interested to see how he can continue to develop as he gets older.

We ranked Cannady early, and he only got better during Wilson Prep’s state championship run, with 13 tackles for loss and three fumble recoveries after the midway point in the season. He lined up all over the defensive line, even out wide, even though we think he’ll ultimately settle into an interior role as he adds more weight.

At 6’2”, 250-plus pounds with a relentless motor, Cannady controlled his side of the line of scrimmage for most of the game, consistently living in the backfield and disrupting plays before they could develop. His combination of size, strength, and effort already projects at a Power-4 level, and his upside is immense as he continues to develop.

A versatile defender, Cannady projects best as a run-stuffing defensive tackle, but he has some agility as well. Wilson Prep uses him both inside and outside, and he’s even moonlighted as a short-yardage running back on offense. You won’t find a more productive freshman defensive lineman this year, as his 11 sacks and 15 tackles for loss are each near or at the top of the class.

Cannady isn’t just a young standout — he’s already one of the most disruptive defensive linemen in the region, and his ceiling is sky-high moving forward.

Cannady is already making an impact on varsity for Wilson Prep, something that was expected from the start. The coaching staff was high on him in the offseason, and he’s delivered, playing extensively on the interior of the defensive line. He moves really well for his size. That’s allowed him to make a huge impact as a pass-rusher.
