Stat Line: 66 Tackles, 16 TFLs, 7.5 Sacks

Greenfield is no stranger to college worthy defensive talent. Their next one up is Zach Safka, a 2027 DL with the frame to translate to the next level. He is 6’2″ 245 lbs and possesses an insane 6’7″ wingspan. This kid can set the edge with the best of them. He is so stout at the point of attack and the highlights show it over and over. The ’27’s highlights also feature the use of that length as he always is creating space and maintaining it until he can disengage. The speed he has to chase down plays in the backfield catches you off guard too on several plays. Zach is a well rounded talent who has improved steadily over his career. I’m expecting a really strong senior season from the DL.

If I recall correctly. my first look at Zach was at the same UWEC Big Man MEGA Camp last year and the development he’s put in since then shows. He’s gotten more progressive with his get off hands as to me, there wa a higher accelerator out of Zach than what I saw from last summer’s camp. The 6’2 250 pounder has a very long 6’6 wingspan to work with as in a few of the 1v1 reps I watched out of Zach you could vividly see the length that is there for the taking with his pass rush moves. He’s got a couple WIAC offers including his newest one from the Blugolds, but still to me seems to be more under the radar than he should be when you mix the live eval and the tape together.

Zachary is just starting to stratch the surface of what he could potentially be. The junior checked in at 6’1″ 245 lbs with a 6’4.5″ wingspan and 10.5″ hands. The big fella can move too. He ran a 5.00 40, 4.66 shuttle, and a 7.28 L-Drill. Being that big while also being able to bend, drop your weight, and burst in another direction is a tough trait to learn and develop. Zach has that and also showed it in some of his pass rushing battles. Safka had a strong junior season on the field and carried it over to the offseason. He will be one to watch this coming summer.

The junior DL out of Greenfield was living in the offensive backfield in Week 2. Especially when it came to passing situations, which were plentiful vs the Racine Park offense. It was completely unfair watching him against TEs or OTs on the edge as he bull rushed them right into the lap of the QB leading to play breakdowns. The highlight reel shows a high motor too, not only making those impact plays but also pursuing outside of the pocket or across the formation to keep pressure on the QB.

Another underclassman with eye-catching physical tools is Zachary Safka Zachary Safka 6'2" | 245 lbs | DL Greenfield | 2027 State WI out of Greenfield High School. The sophomore checked in at 6′ 221 lbs, but the best part was his 6’7″ wingspan and 10.25″ hands. Numbers you don’t hear or see often, and they tell me that we could see big things ahead for Safka as he continues to grow physically. The sophomore did a good job of getting his hands on and getting separation with that length. As he continues to grow, get stronger, and develop his pass rush moves we could see big leaps in Zach’s game.
