Xavier Edwards Xavier Edwards 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Athens | 2026 State AL is an explosive back out of Athens who has quickly become one of my favorite RBs in the 2026 class.

Edwards is explosive out of the backfield, has terrific speed and acceleration, and can take carries upfield for huge gains within an instant. Edwards is really twitchy with the ball in his hands and does a great job of making defenders miss, he is terrific in the open field and consistently finds ways to leave defenders in the dust.

Edwards also has a reliable set of hands in the passing game and can use the same speed and twitch to make impressive plays after the catch, solidifying himself as a talented all-purpose back.

Edwards had a huge season last fall for Athens-ending his junior year with 117 carries for 977 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground, and an additional 12 receptions for 189 yards as a receiver. 

Edwards announced yesterday he had been reoffered by North Alabama! If there’s anyone derserving, Edwards is- he’s a talented back and deserves a lot more eyes.

A few days back, Edwards announced that he has a visit set with Samford later this week. I’m excited to see how it goes for him! He’s a talented prospect with a big senior year ahead of him, just watch.

Xavier Edwards Xavier Edwards 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Athens | 2026 State AL had a great day at camp Saturday, competing well in a bunch of drills and matchups, and is a serious up-and-coming RB for us to watch out for this fall. Edwards has great size and speed, impressive vision, and excellent contact balance he used to break off a ton of huge runs last season. It’s also really impressive how versatile Edwards is, he can create a ton in the passing game- frequently making clutch plays out wide and out of the backfield as a pass catcher. I think what impressed me most with Edwards on Saturday was just seeing how quick he was in person, he’s highly elusive and precise with his cuts, consistently leaving defenders in the dust. Edwards is coming off a huge season last fall that saw him create big plays both on the ground and through the air, ending the year with 117 carries for 977 yards and 14 TDs and another 12 receptions for 189 yards and 3 TDs in the air. I’m seriously excited to watch Edwards play out his senior year this fall, he’s having a great offseason and after seeing him this Saturday it’s clear he has a huge year ahead of him.

Last week against Jasper, Edwards had a terrific performance on the ground and was a huge piece of his team’s offensive production. At 5’9 185, Edwards is a shifty back with a ton of explosiveness who does a great job maximizing every carry. Every time Edwards has the ball in his hands you can expect him to grind out yards and get into the endzone, he’s a physical runner who plays with a ton of speed, toughness, and elusiveness he uses to consistently outmatch defenders. Against Jasper, Edwards was near unstoppable running the ball- he racked up 15 carries for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns in a dominant 50-20 win. Be sure to tune in and watch Athens the rest of this season, as a junior Edwards looks like one of the top backs in his class and is bound to keep making big plays!
