Expert Analysis
Marcus Benjamin | Prep Redzone Scout
Once again, Smith seemed to have the highest motor on a very talented defensive line at Aquinas. Against Columbus, the Ohio State commit mustered a solo sack and a tackle for loss but was constantly in on or close to tackles.
He certainly seems to have the potential to generate 30 tackles for loss this season.

The son of NFL Pro Bowler Justin Smith had a breakout junior year and should be a solid athlete at the next level. He has ideal size and plays with high motor skills.
He uses his strength to lean into linemen and uses good angles to get to ball carriers. Smith sets the edge well and has the speed to run down defenders in the open field. The senior edge has the potential to duplicate his father’s efforts on the college and pro levels.

Smith is somewhat of a late bloomer, but he has shown last season that he has all of the tools to be successful at the next level. He plays with a high motor and uses his hands well to shed blockers on his way to the ball carrier.
He has the speed and quickness to run by offensive linemen, but also uses his strength to create leverage to move potential blockers. Smith also does a good job of setting the edge, preventing big running plays. The Ohio State commit projects as a multi-year starter in college and the pros.
