Expert Analysis
Matt Tate | Prep Redzone Scout
Deater measures in a 6’5 195-pounds. He’s a dominating presence at the tight end position. Deater has good athletic ability due to very good jumping, acceleration, good speed, and change of direction. Very good release. Smooth breaking out of a block and into a route. Very good separation quickness due to his athletic ability, play strength, and mental processing. He’ll sit in a void, run through a defender, or outrun the guy. Very good catching and ball tracking skills. He’ll use his lengthy arms and suction hands to come down with the catch. He balled out at our Stock Up Showcase event, and should be getting more looks on the college circuit.

Deater was #5 at the event for the L-Drill. Great 40 yard time as well. Deater really shined in my eyes in the receiving portion. He looked like a polished tight end out there. Smooth route running, very good separation quickness. Deater used his lengthy arms to pluck the ball out of the air with ease. Very good catching and ball tracking skills. This two-way star for Montrose has all the tools to succeed as a tight end at the next level. Due to the Montrose running scheme, he doesn’t have many options catching, but he shined at the combine. He deserves more looks on the college circuit.

A physically imposing tight end with legitimate Power Four potential, Deater has been a key player on the line to keep this team’s offense stay balanced. Known for his blocking ability, Deater consistently opens running lanes and creates opportunities for his backs to break free. His strength and technique make him a force on the edge, while his versatility allows coaches to move him around the formation. As his team makes a deep playoff push, Deater’s role will be crucial in setting the tone up front. His combination of size, toughness and football IQ gives him the tools to develop into a high level collegiate prospect and a player to watch closely moving forward.

Liam Deater is another great tight end developing out in Montrose. The 6’5 210-pound tight ends has very good strength to dominate blocking. Montrose uses the Wing T, so he has a lot of opportunity to block. Low pad level and good initial quickness to engage with DL. Very good hand placement and hand strength allowing him to control and steer the defender creating running lanes. Good speed from 1st to 2nd level in blocking. If he’s initially beaten, he uses his very good strength to readjust and win. Very good run blocker. He has good acceleration and speed out in space and can stretch the field vertically as well. Keep an eye on Deater !
