Will Charcut Will Charcut 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB/WR Washburn | 2029 State MN , a 612 and Minneapolis Washburn sophomore, is currently holding down the spot as DB1 in the state’s 2029 class. The standout 6′, 180 lber. is making a strong case to remain at the top of the podium come update time this fall, and his sophomore play helped him and his Millers earn a huge win in Week 7 over archrival Minneapolis Southwest. Charcut posted 5 tackles and 1 INT in the win, and the Southwest film displays a cornerback who naturally and instinctively melts into route concepts as a zone coverage defender. He can smoothly flip and unlock his hips, shows good ball skills and impressive 50/50 ball and contested catch skills, and demonstrates noticeable top-end speed that helps him stay on top of wideouts going vertical. Charcut was also a good 1v1 tackler in space who can gain depth in his backpedal and generate power and quickness out of his breaks.

Versus St. Paul Highland Park, Charcut showed off an effective speed turn, can find and locate the ball well in the air, and was physical at the catch point with good technique. The kid owns really impressive ball skills. He times, jumps, and plays the ball in the air really smoothly and effectively and is comfortable and effective under the deep ball.

Verus Minneapolis Camden, Charcut did a great job of staying on top of the Eagles‘ explosive, track-speed, verified receiving corps. Smoothly melts into WRs and uses the sideline as his friend, and posted an INT on a 50/50 ball that he plucked out of the wideout’s hands. The sophomore displayed COD ability, man turns, and aggressive, feisty, and bouncy when playing the ball in the air and cutting off the path of the ball to the WR. Washburn has a good one here!

Charcut recorded 25 tackles, 2 PBUs, a FF, and 2 INTs in 8 appearances among the varsity defense as a freshman. Showing impressive size and length for his age, Charcut uses that well in man coverage, being able to reach out and swat passes away while being able to essentially run the deep routes for the WRs, excelling in 1-on-1 coverage on vert routes and going up in the air for the INT as if he was the intended target. Charcut’s coverage skills are impressively refined for his age, and I’m excited to see how that continues to grow over the next 3 seasons as he proves himself very much capable as a lockdown outside CB.

Charcut proved more than capable of holding his own lined up 1-on-1, showcasing great timing and instincts in man coverage while showcasing exceptional ball skills to jump up and break up passes as well as coming down with interceptions. Charcut also aids well in the run game, using his length to outreach his blockers and get to the ball-carrier while also showing clean tackling form. Charcut should continue to develop brightly as a strong shutdown CB that should drape his opponents’ No. 1 WRs well.
