I almost instantly became a fan of Smallwood from the first few minutes I laid eyes on him at practice. Certainly “has that dog in him”–complete with being the only kid out there without a practice jersey on. Just lined up across from anyone and knuckled up. In fact, when coach circled all the offensive and defensive linemen up for King of the Hill drill (aka Bull in the Ring, or Cowboys and Indians drill) he was the first guy out there. The future Smyrna High School athlete plays the defensive end/edge rusher position with violent hands and uses his long arms to his advantage. Long term I could see him moving to more of a natural linebacker position, with how tall he’ll actually become being questionable.
