Nothing like a mega camp to really kickstart a prospect’s recruitment, and Glenbrook South’s 2025 CB standout Tyrone Cotton Tyrone Cotton 6'1" | 160 lbs | DB Glenbrook South | 2025 State IL III is another example of how quickly a recruitment can change during the Summer Camp SZN. Cotton III earned four offers from Western Michigan, Kent State, Western Illinois, and Grand Valley State after his performance at the North Central mega camp, and followed it up with three FBS offers from Miami (OH), Akron, and Buffalo and P4 offer from Indiana after he balled out at the UIndy Mega Camp. Marshall and Southern Illinois joined the mix during June as well, but Cotton III ended up committing to a program who put their faith in the Chicagoland DB and pulled the trigger before his stock-rising Summer Camp SZN campaign. The South Dakota State Jackrabbits offered up on March 1st and got Cotton III up to Brookings for an unofficial visit in mid-April. That early evaluation and faith showed by the Jacks paid off in the end, as Cotton III committed on June 16th for an excellent DB pickup for the back-to-back defending FCS national champs.
Cotton III’s speed and explosiveness, which has been clocked in the 4.5s as well as a his 6’5 high jump, shows up as a big-play wide receiver with vertical ability, and he has an impressive rep of him running down a loose RB from the backside CB position far downfield to save a TD. The off-man cornerback displays a smooth backpedal, does a good job of undercutting wide receivers, and uses his length effectively at the catch point and shows good technique when breaking up passes. The 6’1, 170 lber. can also tackle in 1v1 situations and in space and does a good job of maintaining phase with receivers throughout their route. Cotton III earned and deserved all of his Summer Camp SZN attention and success. We can’t wait to watch him with the Jackrabbits.

Cotton is a 6’1, 170 lbs cornerback out of Glenbrook South. The Class of 2025 lockdown defensive back is one of the top cover corners in the state of Illinois. He has the frame to match up against bigger wide receivers but also has the quickness and agility to hang with faster wide outs. Cotton showcases phenomenal technique in both off man and press man coverage. He is a smooth back pedaler who can flip his hip quickly to stay in the hip pocket of wide receivers on vertical routes. He can also transition in and out of breaks to knock away level 1 and 2 throws. As Cotton heads into his senior campaign, this rising star is sure to shut down one half of the field week in and week out next season.

Tyrone Cotton demonstrated elite shutdown corner skills during his junior campaign this year, leaving a significant mark on the field. Accumulating 2 interceptions, 15 pass breakups, and 31 tackles in 2023, Cotton’s standout performance earned him well-deserved all-conference awards. Standing tall at 6’2″, his height poses a challenge for wide receivers, as his length in the corner position makes it difficult for them to find openings. Beyond his physical attributes, Cotton boasts exceptional closing speed, adding another layer to his defensive prowess. With such an impressive skill set, Cotton should be considered a top prospect among defensive back recruits in the class of 2024.

Cotton is perhaps the biggest piece returning for the Titans from a year ago. The Class of 2025 defensive back is ready to take on a bigger role heading into his junior season, as he is one of the top ranked corners in the state. A year ago, Cotton posted an impressive stat line of 4 intercepts and 12 pass break ups. Measuring in at 6’1, 160 lbs, Cotton has the length, athleticism, and ball skills that make him a shut down corner. He is as smooth a backpedaler as one will find and showcases the ability to transition his hips fluidly to get in and out of breaks. He can drive on balls with urgency and has elite speed that helps him run with nearly any receiver. As far as intangibles go, Cotton has it all and is ready to show off his skills under the Friday night lights.

One of our higher ranked 2025s on this list, Glenbrook South’s 6’1, 160 lber. Tyrone Cotton Tyrone Cotton 6'1" | 160 lbs | DB Glenbrook South | 2025 State IL III rose significantly from his previous WL position and now lands as our #60 overall prospect as both a DB and WR. Both Jake Lemming and I like Cotton’s game, which saw him post an impressive 12 PBUs and 4 INTs last fall as a sophomore, and the film shows a DB with length and a ton of room to grow and add good weight, a smooth and fluid backpedal and COD skills, length, and ball skills. I really like how he can flip his hips, and Cotton does a good job of staying technically sound with consistent eye discipline, not to mention his speed to stay on top of deep routes and quickness out of his breaks. He’s fun to watch and made plays on the ball from a variety of positions and on a variety of routes, and also popped off some big plays offensively when he gets the ball in his hands. Especially in off-man coverage, Cotton Island is not a fun place to be if you’re an opposing wide receiver. The kid is a stud!
