You may already be seeing the James Franklin effect and he hasn’t even coached a game at Virginia Tech. One item is him offering All state quarterback Tyrell Grant who has been committed to Syracuse for a couple of months. I can attest that Grant is an elite quarterback who can play in the Power 4 either school could be a fit. This could be an interesting development.

. has completed 97-of-156 passes for 1,350 yards, 22 touchdowns and three interceptions through last week. I can’t confirm the exact number, but he also has at least 336 rushing yards and at least six rushing touchdowns (may update this shortly). His first four plays tell me a lot from his mid-season highlights. One play has him throwing a deep ball downfield, hitting the receiver in stride with a well-timed pass. Another, he’s in the redzone and throws a fade to the receiver’s back shoulder for a touchdown against tight coverage. Grant shows mobility in another play where he’s flushed out of the pocket, and he decides to run for a significant 20-plus yard gain. Another play shows him being rushed from the right side of the pocket, forcing him to roll left, and Grant throwing a 20-plus-yard completion to the receiver on the sideline. That showcased his ability to keep his composure, stay locked on his target downfield, and deliver a pass that required both arm strength and accuracy. The Syracuse commit has come a long way in the past year.

Earning our top quarterback ranking, Syracuse bound Tyrell Grant has soared into 35th overall after being in the top 300 the season prior. A lot to like about this young man’s game as he had showed my colleagues and I in person that he is the real deal. The number 1 qb in the state, Grant committed to Syracuse this past spring and it wouldn’t shock me if he saw the field their as a freshman.

Syracuse bound for Nansemond River star Tyrell Grant, making his commitment official over this past week. The Orangemen beat out a number of competitors including North Carolina Central, Navy and William & Mary. Grant is outstanding quarterback who is now focused on championship hardware for him and his Warrior teammates. The top performer at our past two showcases is a major league talent, happy for him and his family on this decision!

4.56 40 for a QB his size, a 9’10 broad. I would pretend to be surprised, yet Grant Jr. dominated the testing portion of our 1st PRZ VA event back in January. Grant Jr. dominated all hours of the first event, with Grant following up that performance with an equally impressive showing this past weekend. I did what I could to pay closer attention to Grant’s leadership skills in this one, I watched him encourage others, provide energy, and respond positively to coaching critique. There wasn’t a ton of critique headed his way, especially in a setting like this one. Grant is ahead of the curve from a work ethic/athletic/technique perspective. Every QB in the world will always have something to work on, no matter the level, yet watching Grant Jr. has me feeling like I’m watching teach tape at times. A consistent and replicable release, one that looked as crisp as it ever has. Good rhythm throwing to all three levels of the field, love watching Grant anticipate and throw accurate balls, this to kids he has zero chemistry with. In all honesty, another MVP-caliber performance put forth by the junior out of Nansemond River.

A Virginia favorite of mine, and it’s all of his doing. 6’1, 190 pounds. 3.9 GPA. Former PRZ VA Showcase MVP.
Question I Want Answered: How many more times will Grant Jr. make me look bad?
The above question is a bit tongue-in-cheek. The reigning PRZ VA Camp MVP will be back under our microscope ready to prove his ranking wrong, just like he did this past January in Fredericksburg. I’ll say it again, Grant Jr.s current ranking hasn’t been updated in some time, the more time that does pass, the worse it looks on my end. I had Grant Jr. graded out as a Low FCS/High DII passer this time last year. Grant Jr. has gone on to shatter the ceiling I placed above his head. A legitimate D1 prospect at this point in time, one who Power Four’s asked me about after his first camp performance. I studied Grant Jr.s tape, I am aware how poorly he is currently represented on our site, that’ll all be corrected. What I really want to know is, how long is the list of QBs ranked ahead of Grant Jr. by the time the Fall of 2025 comes around? Ten? Five? How high can this young man climb? He’s my pick to win QB MVP yet again, we’ll see.

Tyrell is the real deal when it comes to being a lethal dual-threat quarterback. Tyrell was named as the MVP of the Virginia Stock Up Showcase event in earlier this year and holds several D1 offers. His accuracy on all levels of the field are excellent. His arm is explosive and he’s fundamentally sound going through his motion. He’s also a great athlete who almost racked up 500 rushing yards throughout the season.

Posted the third-best Shuttle time (4.47). A testament to his ability to change direction. Posted a QB-best 40-time (4.62). This 40 time beat every single QB by at least two-tenths of a second. Grant Jr. posted an absurd broad jump, jumping a whopping 10’0″. I can count on my fingers how many times I’ve seen a prospect jump into the double-digits. None of those times were QBs under the microscope, kid has the explosiveness of a back/backer underneath him. Posted the second-best L-Drill time too (7.53).
