Expert Analysis
Paul Gregorian | Prep Redzone Scout
Winkles is one of the top passers returning across the north coast section and put up some ridiculous numbers during his Junior season for the Dons. He threw for 2,715 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for another 356 yards and 7 scores on the year. His ability to navigate the pocket and keep his eyes downfield and deliver on schedule throws stands out on film and he has great ball placement, touch over the top and can make accurate throws at all levels. He is very athletic and can buy time with his legs, throw on the run and drop the ball into a phone booth over the top on the deep ball. Overall, Winkles is a very high IQ passer with good mechanics and escapability who should draw plenty of college attention through his final season.

With 1,797 passing yards and 19 touchdowns, Winkles has been the driving force behind Acalanes’ undefeated season and status as one of the top ranked teams in the NCS. He displays strong pocket mechanics and smooth footwork. Shows he can land and drive the ball with timing and velocity into a tight window or buy time and layer the ball over second level defenders. Accelerated release that allows him to get the ball quickly. Highly accurate, like his ability to hit his receivers in stride to give them the opportunity to run after the catch.

Winkles is one of the top passers in the north coast section this year and has Acalanes primed to make a deep playoff run here as soon as the regular season ends. He is a very efficient passer with tight mechanics, a strong arm downfield and good movement in the pocket with sneaky dual-threat abilities and is very dangerous both through the air and with his legs. In a big time NCS clash of two of the top teams this year, he had a very strong showing and exploded on both front, having almost 300 yards of total offense and 4 touchdowns in a big time win over Campolindo.

Winkles is one of the top passers in the 2027 class across northern California and has been off to one of the hottest starts of any signal caller to start the 2025 season. He is a quick processor, moves through progressions quickly while able to deliver the ball at all three levels and into tight windows. He shows he can buy time with his legs while keeping his eyes downfield but also can do plenty of damage on the ground when scrambling or on designed runs. He erupted this week against a tough St. Ignatius squad and threw for 320+ yards and 4 total touchdowns through the air and on the ground. The Dons are currently one of the top teams in the north coast section heading into week 4 and are looking to be slated in the vaunted Open Divison come November.
