Troy was an incredibly difficult WR to cover all camp. I actually thought he was one of, if not the most explosive receiver in attendance. All afternoon, he did an excellent job of winning at the top of his route. Additionally, Troy made a number of difficult catches downfield, sometimes laying out to catch the football.
I only saw a handful of reps from Troy, but that handful was impressive. I hope to see Troy at more events in the spring.
Troy is a speed-in-space guy that can deal real damage both over the top and underneath. Multiple highlights showcase his ability to take sweeps, turn the corner and gash the defense for some chunk plays. In the screen game, Troy is able to make some guys miss in space and turn on the jets to get into open field. He has a few highlights as a return man, and I was really impressed with that aspect of his game as well. His vision and acceleration are very rare, and it serves this Romeo team well. They have a big challenge this week as they attempt to topple a team they have already beaten once, so Smith will be a major player in this matchup.
I honestly did not get any video or notes on Troy, but I’d like to quickly shout him out because of his phenomenal testing numbers. The numbers above are among the best at camp. Considering what I thought of his highlight tape, Troy has the stuff to be an amazing varsity football player. As long as Troy polishes up the little aspects of his game, he’s got a high ceiling!
Troy floated around JV and Varsity last season and had a fair amount of Varsity highlights.
The first couple of highlights show Troy’s speed in the open field. Taking handoffs on the Jet Sweep, Troy does a good job at closely following his blocks and exploding through open space at just the right time. Then, plays like 0:46 highlight some more of his quickness and vision. Even though it was a minimal gain, Troy did a great job to break a tackle and at least gain a couple of yards. There’s even a kick return highlight at 1:06.
All signs point toward Troy being a big part of the Romeo Program this coming season. He’s a great open-field option, and a potentially great kick returner. Excited to watch him play this offseason or in the Fall!
