Earvin is a talented DB who broke out and had a huge year for Hobart as a sophomore. He went from having potential to showing what he can do on the field. He’s got great range and instincts in the backend. He flies to the ball and doens’t guess wrong when he does. He’s physical for his size and I like the swagger he plays with. He’s not cocky, he’s confient. His preparation and hard work puts him in positions to succeed. He put up 99 total tackles, 5 TFLs, 3 interceptions, 4 PBUs, forced 2 fumbles, and recovered another fumble.

Earvin had a big night for Hobart, and the defense was in charge from the first snap of the night. Earvin is good in coverage and has a good feel for how to play man on the outside alone on an island. He kept his side on lock and didn’t beat over the top and came down to play the run. He ended the night with a team-leading 10 tackles. He added 2 TFLs, 1 sack, a forced fumble, and 1 deflected pass.

Earvin is a jitterbug in the best way. He’s slippery, hard to square up, and changes direction like it’s second nature. His agility makes him a problem in space and he could absolutely feast out of the slot as he continues to develop. I saw him at a camp last year and even then, his movement and suddenness stood out. He’s the kind of guy that can take a short gain and turn it into something big.

We came across Earvin right towards the end of the season and liked what we saw. He’s a young DB with confidence and some pep in his step. As the season went on he began to trust what he saw as he got a feel for the speed of the HS game. He can play man and zone coverage as well as wrap up in the open field. I’d like to see his frame develop over the next few years, but where he is now is a promising sign.

Earvin is a scrappy player who is going to frustrate players down the road. He’s not afraid to play physical and forced contact. While he’s smart enough not to get a penalty, I love seeing a young DB being willing to play tough. He’s a bit undersized as of right now, but it doesn’t hurt his play, and if anything, is what gives him that scrappy edge. He’s got to be creative, in their face, and harass them. He does a good job and will swipe for the ball. I think Hobart has a good one here waiting to be unleashed.
