Stephens has been on the PRZ radar long before his recruitment kicked off this summer with his first two offers coming in from Tulsa and UT-San Antonio. Possesses a strong compact frame at 5’8” 180 lbs. with good build through his lower half. He’s a decisive runner that presses the LOS early and flashes his quick twitch and change of direction both in tight spaces and the open field. He maintains good leg drive to pick up yards after contact and can break through with good balance/pad level. Demonstrates the top end speed to separate from defenders in space and sustains his second gear throughout the play. Moves up in the rankings over 70 spots to #127 overall and will be a name to know as he sees more opportunities to flash his ability as a junior.

Stephens is a big bodied runner that gets downhill quickly, runs behind his pads and can break arm/ankle tackles with ease while looking for contact in the hole and always falling forward. He has good balance in-between the tackles, waits for his blocks to develop before hitting the hole and is a smooth mover for his size that was very productive is only his sophomore season for Murrieta Valley. Heading into his Junior season he should be one of the more productive ball carriers across the region and have plenty of colleges come his way as he should be able to fill that bigger back roll for a college team down the line.

Stephens separated himself as one of the best athletes out of the running back group at Sunday’s showcase. The sophomore RB out of Murrieta Valley recorded an impressive 4.56 in the 40-yard dash and showed exceptional lateral agility and fluidity out in space. He’s quick in and out of his cuts with his natural low center-of-gravity, can mix up his tempo/pacing, and moves with great balance and footwork. Stephens was a recent top performer at the You Are Athlete Showcase in December and has his stock trending up early into the offseason.
