is a name to watch this season. The 6’2”, 205-pound athlete from Westwood is a two-way playmaker, but his future looks brightest at linebacker. He’s a modern prototype—long, athletic, and explosive. He covers space effortlessly and plays fast downhill. His change of direction and fluidity in coverage stand out on tape.
This off-season, his recruiting stock has soared. He’s picked up offers from UMass, Delaware, and Temple in March alone. With his frame and skill set, expect even more programs to take notice. If he keeps trending upward, he’ll be one of the top linebackers in New Jersey.

lived up to the hype last weekend as he contributed greatly on both sides of the ball for Westwood. In the 30-0 rout of Ramsey, Steve put the team on his back when handed the ball and also played lights out when lining up on the other side of the ball. If you aren’t familiar with Steve, now’s the time to get acquainted. While he has already received offers from Syracuse and Boston College, performances like last week’s will continue to draw interest in his direction.
Steve is an athlete in the truest sense, as he has the potential to line up at multiple positions at the next level. Steve is bigger, faster, and stronger than you’re ordinary 2026 prospect. Defensively, Steve can thrive as a linebacker or a safety. He has incredible lateral quickness and is great when he drops into coverage, as he was able to make a leaping interception this past week.
On offense, Steve’s size and quickness is just too much for most opponents to handle. He can deploy multiple tactic to pick up positive yardage, as he can dart by a defender or run right through them if the situation arises. Steve could not be stopped this past weekend, as he took 9 carries for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns. You will definitely hear more about Steve once playoff season arrives.

delivers on the field in a much different way than the aforementioned Bailey. Also blessed to have a second gear, Klein has a great backpedal that is quick and fluid. This allows him to run and get to his drop with ease, while having plenty of time and space to break on the ball when it is thrown. When defending the pass, we see that Klein does a great job of feeling and sensing his matchups every move as he stays in their hip pocket. Klein looks absolutely huge on film, often the biggest player on the field. With the ball in his hands, we see him hit shifty cuts. Lastly, Klein is about as sure of a tackler I can recently recall seeing. Klein can profile and gator tackle with equally elite proficiency.

Steven Klein has been an impact player since he stepped on the scene for Westwood as a freshman. Klein puts to use his clear, second gear to use both offensively and defensively. Athletic in his approach, we see him quickly, fluidly backpedal while staying in control the entire time. Subtly, Klein will use his hands to gain a sense of where his matchup is looking to break and play the ball underneath his man. Often the biggest player on the filed, he is about as sure of a tackler as you can be – both with profile tackling and gator rolls. Lastly, Klein is awfully shifty for someone of his size.

from Westwood Regional. At 6’2” and 190 pounds, Steve is an athlete who plays both running back and linebacker/strong safety. His build is exactly what modern defenses seek in linebackers and safeties. He’s big enough to play linebacker in the box, yet moves like a safety on the back end. Steve consistently finds himself in the right place at the right time, often benefiting from tipped passes and interceptions. Last season, according to MaxPreps, he ended with six interceptions.
Steve’s skill set suggests he could push himself even further. By expanding his ability to cover in the slot and over the top, he could attract more attention from college scouts. His versatility to attack downhill against offensive linemen and quickly cover slot receivers or deep routes makes him a unique asset. This adaptability could significantly boost his interception totals and overall defensive impact.

played a big part in Westwood’s success in 2023. With 6 interceptions on the season, Steve’s feet never stopped moving as he was always ready to pivot and break in the opposite direction to make a play on the ball. A safety that can creep up and bring the ball carrier down behind the line, Steve is lightning quick to get into the backfield but is also quick to recognize the pass and find his man in coverage. Look for this two way starter to become more well known next season.
