About Slaton

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a dual threat quarterback that utilizes my arm strength and accuracy in the passing game and my athletic ability and legs in the running game. I am a competitor and I leave it all on the field every game.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I do whatever it takes to help my team succeed. If it takes throwing the ball all over the field or having to run it 25 times that game, I do what the team needs on that night. I love to compete and that is why I compete in not only football, but also in basketball and baseball.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am active in my church's youth group and have been on the principal's honor role, as well as the junior national honor society. I do volunteer work in my community for senior citizens and also at youth sport camps to help mentor young athletes.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Playing three sports has definitely helped me develop as a leader and to understand the importance of teamwork. Being the quarterback on the football team, the point guard on the basketball team, and the short stop on the baseball team, I know that being an effective leader involves great communication and enthusiasm.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have chosen to stay at my current high school even though others thought that I should take my talents elsewhere. Team success is not the easiest for a number of reasons at my school, but I believe in representing where you came from and not just going somewhere else where it may be easier for personal recognition. I have tried my best to elevate my teams and help them to be successful.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a school that believes in me and my abilities. I learned my work ethic from my Grandad who was a coalminer and from my parents who worked hard everyday to support me and my sport activities. I am looking for a college that is interested in a competitive and determined kid that can throw it or run it to get the ball where it needs to go.

He threw for over 2,700 yards and 27 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions this season, while also leading the team in rushing with 690 yards and 8 more scores. Manko may play at an under-the-radar program, but D2 colleges would be wise to offer him soon.
