Wingate was a 2,000-yard rusher at North Lincoln, and when he transferred to a fairly different system at Maiden, he put up over 1,900 yards as a senior. He’s a versatile rusher who thrives in an outside zone system, but has the acceleration to get downhill on power concepts. He has the speed to bounce runs to the outside and the power to run through arm tackles.

One of the best running backs in the state, Shannon has shown he can flat-out take games over with his running ability. Coming over to Maiden High School this season, he has not slowed down one bit – most recently evidenced by his recent game of nearly 250 yards rushing. Shannon has shown this season that he can be a three-down back with his performance in a more pro-style/spread offense. Shannon is receiving well-deserved college interest as a result of this.

Wingate’s move to Maiden could really help his recruiting stock and I think it will be an overall positive for the rising senior. A workhorse back, Wingate has enough speed to stretch the defense and pick up chunks of yardage when he gets to the second level and his contact balance is among the best in the class.

Wingate transferred to Maiden after three years at North Lincoln and the move could pay dividends for the power back with great vision and good speed. Wingate put up over 3,200 rushing yards in two years as a starter, running for an impressive 50 touchdowns in the process. I’m excited to see if he can flash as a receiver and pass-blocker in a new system in 2025.

After a huge junior season at North Lincoln, Wingate moved from an athlete designation to a pure running back in our system, then transferred to Maiden. The move to a more modern offense could kick start his recruitment. College coaches need to look past his testing numbers and see that the speed and power on the field translate. His vision is among the best in the class and he’s nearly impossible to bring down at the second and third levels, leading to plenty of long runs. Expect a huge senior season from the 205-pounder.

Not only did Wingate make a huge jump in our rankings, but he switched from an athlete designation to a pure running back in our system. I view that as a huge positive, because it means that we view him as a guy who is good enough as a runner to get recruited to that position. He added weight and maintained speed this season, resulting in ridiculous numbers: Wingate scored a touchdown in all 14 games, and ran for over 200 yards as often as he was held under 100 yards.

We’ve already bumped Wingate on the back end of the rankings, thanks to his ridiculous start to the season. Through three games, he’s averaging over 200 yards a game and that isn’t being skewed by incredibly high usage or a couple of extra long runs. Instead, he’s just making defenses look silly over and over again, running with vision, speed, and power.
