Shamir Harper Shamir Harper 6'1" | 160 lbs | DB Absegami | 2025 State NJ had an outstanding season as a wide receiver, consistently showing his ability to get vertical and create explosive plays. However, with the growing demand for high-level defensive backs, his future may lie in the secondary. At 6’1”, Shamir has a long, wiry frame ideal for turning and running with wide receivers. While he needs to add some size, his movement skills and athleticism stand out.
What sets Shamir apart is his versatility. He can lock down receivers on the outside or play man coverage in the slot. Additionally, he thrives in downhill situations, playing aggressively against the run or in the box on critical downs. Shamir’s ability to disrupt the passing and running game makes him one of the top uncommitted defensive backs to watch.

Abesgami, or simply “Gami” as I have recently learned, has about three outstanding prospects I have identified thus far from their roster. First up is Shamir Harper Shamir Harper 6'1" | 160 lbs | DB Absegami | 2025 State NJ . Harper gets great breaks on the ball while playing either corner or safety. His backpedal is fluid and balanced allowing him to do so, at any given route depth. His tackling is very good. As a receiver he is all gas and no breaks, never slowing down as he runs. Harper also has the ability to high point the ball. Harper will fight and punch the ball out with all his might should the opposing receiver get his hands on it. He rides his matchup’s hip when in press coverage and play underneath coverage off of that. At times he will body catch. Harper is still looking for a home upon graduating.

Shamir Harper’s potential shines brightest in an attacking, versatile safety role within a zone blitz scheme. Standing at 6’1” with a weight of 155 pounds, his size and length make him well-suited to disrupt passing lanes and make plays on the football. With excellent instincts and athleticism, he possesses the traits of a true ball hawk, capable of patrolling the secondary with confidence. While Harper also displays proficiency as a wide receiver, his defensive playmaking abilities have the potential to be game-changing for his team. However, to fully realize his potential, adding more weight is crucial, particularly if he aims to contribute effectively in the box against the run—a necessity in an attacking defensive scheme with zone coverage behind it.Furthermore, Harper’s athleticism and fluid hip movement make him adept at covering slot receivers, further expanding his utility on the defensive side of the ball. In envisioning his ideal scheme fit, a system reminiscent of the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive approach, particularly how they utilized All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton, appears promising for Harper’s development. While he may not yet reach Hamilton’s level, Harper could thrive in a similar role, leveraging his talents to impact games in multifaceted ways.
