Russo, another slot receiver, has soft hands and really makes you stop and think whether he makes one-handed catches or catches over his shoulder look easy. Russo is a smooth mover, really showing the ability to scoot; however, he has a nice blend of speed and quickness to him when he moves about. As such, Caldwell uses him routinely in crossing patterns or verticals. I found this interesting though, as you might expect a target of his stature to be featured in more short-to-intermediate patterns. He uses his hands to receive the ball and is able to turn up on a corner well, as well as stay up against high tackles. A player who protects himself, Russo is inclined to make sliding catches as defenders break on him to lay a big hit to avoid serious contact. He knows how to preserve his body playing this game.
