Expert Analysis
Andy Pham | Prep Redzone Scout
Sam has been an important two-way player this year. He has an excellent frame and moves well athletically. He’s been a big target on offense due to his frame and catch radius. Defensively, which is where his future will be, has shined as a playmaker. He shows good instincts and does well anticipating in coverage and can attack off the line. He’s a Power-Four athlete with exceptional upside. Plenty of tools as he starts to find his way.

Ngata is an exciting two-way player who had to sit out for the first half of last season due to transfer rules. Once he was able to suit up, he flashed his potential. He is an excellent mover, has good speed, quick burst, and a great tool set. He shows good footwork and hands as a receiver and has an overall frame to grow into, and his future might be on the defense, but at this time, he’s better labeled as an athlete. His tools and traits project him as a big-time Power-Four recruit.

Ngata is an exceptional athlete with a great frame and should get to 230+ when his High School days are over. When the dust settles, he projects offensively as a prototypical X-receiver or transition to Tight End, where he can create mismatches as a move Tight End and a big slot. Ngata has a long wingspan and a large catch radius. He has strong hands and tracks the ball well. He is tough to bring down, picks up chunk yards after the catch, and creates separation well. Ngata is a physical player who is still learning to play with his frame. That frame and physicality make him an exciting prospect on defense where he has spent time as a Linebacker. Ngata projects as a SAM or EDGE on that side of the ball where his speed and raw skills naturally lead to speculation of being a full-time defender. He is an exceptional athlete and brings a lot of tools to the table and his skillset on offense is tantalizing. Ngata is similar to Jurrion Dickey and Malachi Coleman, two physical players who might naturally be better on defense but showcase such a good skillset on offense that you want to see if he can become a George Pickens type of player.
