Alcala has drawn heavy praise from coach Michael Echaves this offseason.
Troy is traditionally a double-wing team but a lot of Alcala’s film is in more orthodox 11 personnel sets. He’s effective at throwing deep balls outside the hashes and has good timing on a lot of his balls.
Alcala is certainly aided by the team’s strong running game and throwing to a true Power 4 receiver, but he’s good at using all levels of the field and spreading the ball around a bit.
He set the school’s single-season record in passing yards and touchdowns last season.
