Expert Analysis
Rob Howe | Prep Redzone Scout
In what was a difficult season on the East Side of Des Moines, Sykes found ways to deliver on both sides of the ball. He paced the Scarlets with 371 yards and two scores on the ground, adding a pair of two-point conversions. On defense, he registered 13.5 tackles, eight of which were solo stops. He posted 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. We can see Sykes impacting the action during his junior highlight video of 2025. He does a nice job running between the tackles, patiently waiting for his blockers to do their jobs and flowing with the play. He cuts sharply and can bounce it to the outside. Sykes gets downhill in a hurry and accelerates quickly. He reads defenders well on the second and third levels. While he doesn’t have defensive clips on his tape, his skill set works in the secondary and on special teams.
