Expert Analysis
Corey Bailey | Prep Redzone Scout
The two-time Defensive Player of the Year, Piavis wreaked absolute havoc in the backfield this season. He tallied an impressive 38 tackles for loss, along with 140 total tackles, ranking him second in 2A. On top of that, Piavis recorded 12 sacks, landing him third in the class. His dominant performance earned him a third consecutive All-Conference selection.
Owens’ ability to shed blocks and his relentless pursuit of the ball stood out all season. He routinely blew past offensive linemen and would-be blockers, attacking the pocket from sharp angles after beating his man, making it nearly impossible for quarterbacks to escape his pass rush. Piavis proved he is a game-changer—he had multiple pass deflections while crashing the pocket and forced two fumbles, one of which he recovered and returned for a touchdown. If that doesn’t demonstrate dominance, it’s hard to say what does.
Despite his outstanding performance, Owens’ recruitment has yet to gain significant traction. He remains a sleeper prospect, but any college program that lands him will be getting a major steal in the future.

Piavis is the 2023 Bayside 3A/2A DPOY, well deserved with a whopping 16 sacks. He is quick in short spaces allowing him to close on the quarterback fast. Yet to gain traction in the recruiting trail, he will be a steal for a recruiting class in 2025. I expect his recruiting stock to take positive strides after the 2024 season, I don’t see him slowing down and continuing to be the playmaker on that North Caroline defense.

Owen was added to the 2025 watch list over the past season and after a monster year I can guarantee that you’ll see him in the official rankings in the fall. Piavis ended the season with 33 TFL’s which led the state and was second in the sack category with 16. In his most busy game against Bennett he recorded 17 total tackles and 2 sacks. Owen is an edge rusher who beats his opponents with quickness and his hands. He consistently wins with his swim move, and even put a shoulder fake on display to beat a block and secure the sack. 103 tackles is the difference Piavis brings to the North Caroline defense, keeping opposing QB’s on their toes and the offense moving backwards.
