The younger brother of Iowa redshirt-sophomore linebacker, Nolan DeLong, Owen DeLong Owen DeLong 6'0" | 175 lbs | RB/DB Durant | 2028 IA is carrying on the legacy at Durant in his second year with the program.
Coming off a freshman campaign where he played sparingly, DeLong showed glimpses of being the type of impact player his brother was for the Wildcats, posting 6.5 tackles and an interception on varsity.
This season, he’s taken it up a notch — or several. Now having an understanding of varsity football at the high school level, DeLong has taken 92 carries for 443 yards and seven scores, adding eight receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown on offense this season. Defensively, he’s more than doubled his output, putting together 15 tackles while also being tied for third in 1A in interceptions with three.

DeLong already is listed as a team captain despite only being a sophomore. That certainly speaks to his leadership skills. His numbers as a 10th-grader confirm his excellence between the lines. DeLong had rushed 64 times for 318 yards and three touchdowns, added seven catches for 94 yards and a score, and threw for a TD in his team’s first four games. He’s also delivered 10 solo tackles and three interceptions. DeLong doesn’t yet house any highlight video on his Hudl profile, but we can view Wildcat game film on the team’s page. We see a performer that one would expect coming from an athletic family, which has a sibling on the Iowa Football team and another on the rowing squad. Owen plays faster than most others on the field and is one to watch moving forward.
