O’Connor is a dual-threat quarterback with run-game impact and timing-based passing ability. Right now, his highlights lean more towards his mobility and the way he makes defenses pay when he uses his legs. However, there are enough passing plays in his highlights to show that he has a real foundation as a thrower.
His athleticism and running ability are his calling card…for now. O’Connor’s highlights show that he’s decisive as a runner on designed quarterback sweeps and keepers. He’s comfortable getting to the edge and turning up field, just like a running back would. O’Connor is able to break arm tackles and generate explosive plays as well as a runner. As a passer, he shows touch on fades and vertical throws. O’Connnor hits seam routes and quick-game concepts in stride. He likes to get the ball out on time on first-read throws, not bad and not surprising since he’s only a freshman. As with most young quarterbacks, I look to see the progression they make as far as making full-field progression reads in year two as a starter.
O’Connor is a dynamic offensive weapon who can stress defenses with his legs while making the necessary throws to keep defenses honest. Looking forward to big of a step he takes headed into his sophomore-year season.
