The Jump: 11 Spots
This year we started seeing Mitchell play more LB positions than just off the edge. Proving that versatility was a big part in his climb up the rankings further. Mitchell has an excellent frame that has the sideline to sideline range and the agility to pick through the front seven while always attacking downhill. Mitchell also has packed plenty of strength onto his 230 lbs frame, allowing him to make quick work of OL when they get their hands on him. The cherry on top of this versatile athlete is that you can put him in position to rush the passer in those obvious down and distances and trust that he will be able to get pressure. Love to see that he will be playing FCS football.

When it comes to playing LB it is so important to be able to keep yourself clean while battling through the trenches. LBs are always on the losing end when it comes to size vs OL, but they still need to be able to get off of blocks when an OL gets their hands on them. So to build an LB prospect we need to mold our game after the best at that. In my eyes that is Marquette’s

. The senior LB plays all over the formation and has developed some excellent hand fighting moves to keep himself clean from OL and also allowing him to create separation from them when they do get their hands on him during a play. Our Perfect LB Recruit needs to have the block disengagement skills of Nigro to succeed.

With recent commitments, Nigro is quickly moving towards being the best available LB in the state. The tape from Level 2 verifies that. Mitchell is so versatile. Off-ball MLB, edge rusher, off-ball OLB. You will find the senior everywhere and he makes plays from every alignment. His natural, physical traits are impressive. He plays with an explosive get off, strong hands, and effective lateral movement as a pass rusher. His instincts at off ball LB are impressive. He is so quick to read the play and trigger downhill against the run. Mitchell flows and fills so quickly and is able to play through the trenches without getting stuck on blocks. His blend of agility, strength, burst, and size are hard to find. Check out the tape!

. The OLB was a menace off the edge in 2023 on the way to a D1 State Championship. While the talented athlete doesn’t have the length for the edge at the next level he does have a great base of traits to play off ball LB while also providing some situational pass rush ability. Nigro has an explosive first step and fluid flexibility so that he can dip underneath OTs. The ’25 has very effective speed/range to chase down plays from behind, even if he is lined up out near the slot. Mitchell also does well on the edge against the run. He knows the leverage he needs to maintain to keep the RB inside his containment and can get around blocks to make stops himself. The highly productive OLB is going to put together a great senior season, and needs to be locked in at the top of college recruiting boards as long as he is uncommitted.

One of WI’s best LBs is the OLB out of Milwaukee Marquette. The 6’2″ 220 lbs junior has developed a skill set that perfectly fits his build. While he may not possess elite length to play on the edge he has become an impact because of that adaptation. Mitchell has a strong first step off the line, forcing OTs to get into their pas set quickly. Once into his rush, Nigro has proven he can win with a variety of pass rush moves. We see the bend to dip underneath. We see the balance to be able to cut laterally and then accelerate. The junior OLB also plays with powerful hands when engaged with OTs. Added to the pass rush talents is a very high motor that is demonstrated snap after snap of him playing out in space or making a chase down play. Nigro also absolutely hammers ball carriers/QBs when he tackles. Mitchell is a stout, strong OLB prospect to know in this Class.

. Nigro delivered under the brightest lights too. We saw him make game changing plays against the run and pass. The 6’2″” 220 lbs edge defender is a strong, explosive athlete. Mitchell was a nightmare rushing the passer. His first step instantly gave him the angle and he used strong hands and the ability to transition speed to power to either bull rush or disengage with the OT. Mitchell closed quickly and offensive players knew when he hit them. Against the run, Mitchell showed the power to set the edge and keep the RB or QB from getting outside of contain. This is one of the top athletes at his position in WI. Get on him early.

Stats: 6 Tackles, 1 SackrnThe 6’2” 220+ lbs junior OLB is off to a great start in 2023. The tape shows an athletic, rangy OLB who thrives in space. He can line up wide and win with speed to the QB or handoff point. Nitro has also shown the ability to chase down plays from behind. Mitchell also possesses excellent lateral agility that allow him to make tackles in space in one on one scenarios. Both of his sacks came on plays where he got his hands inside, made a strong initial strike to get separation, and then was able to bend past the OL and get to the QB. Definitely file this kid under Need to Know.

The 6’3″ 205 lbs sophomore OLB broke out this season and launched himself into the Top 10 of the Class of 2025. Mitchell is an impressive prospect that I believe will see his recruitment start to take off rapidly over the next year. He is a long, lean athlete who excels out in space. You don’t see many athletes his age and size move like he does out in space. Nigro is already one of the top LB when it comes to playing behind his initial alignment. As a sophomore, Nigro broke up 12 passes and picked off another. He has a big range, changes direction easily, and has the burst to top speed needed to be in a zone coverage. Then against the run he is aggressive, plays downhill, takes on blocks with power, and is one of the top tacklers in the class. Keep an eye on the Marquette product. Monster things ahead for him.
