Expert Analysis
Ed OBrien | Prep Redzone Scout
Ebongue primarily lines up at defensive end but shows some positional flexibility in his highlights. On his opening play, he takes on a guard, sheds the block quickly, and finishes the tackle at the line of scrimmage. There are a couple of plays where Ebongue does a good job with his run fits and finishes tackles when he gets to the ball carrier. You also get a good idea of what he looks like in pursuit of a play where he tracks down a running back and makes the tackles. As I mentioned earlier, he can be seen lining up on the edge or more along the interior. I like Ebongue’s gap shooting ability. There are a few plays where he is unblocked beteween the guard and tackle, enabling him to attack the open gap quickly and make plays from behind. He definitely has a motor and is active around the football. Most of the plays come in run support. Would like to see more pass-rush reps, particularly those where there’s an attempt to block him. I’d also like to see more reps of him actually coming off the edge to get a better idea of what his pass-rush arsenal looks like. I think more plays like this would dramatically improve how recruiters evaluate him. His best fit at the next level would be at strong-side defensive end. Ebongue’s film shows most of his impact coming in run defense situations, which is a major responsibility of a strong-side end.
