. Wellet is a linebacker with the versatility to play all over a defensive front. As a blitzer, Wellet times the snap well, and if he cannot get home he matches the quarterbacks hand. Moreover, Wellet is the type of prospect that is schematically sound and will never be out of position. He bails to his drops as quickly as he can and plays down hill due to his ability to read his keys. Wellet would benefit from using his hands to shed and take on blockers, while lowering his pad level when tackling.

The Showcase was my first time seeing Michael live and I came away very impressed. He is incredibly smooth and fluid in his movement. Good athleticism and short area speed/burst, Michael has quick hips and feet allowing him to be very effective in the box as a ILB. His height will be a question for some schools, but Michael is also off the charts academically making him a must see prospect for D3 Academic schools.

is a versatile linebacker that can cover a lot of ground as he flies around the field. Lining up like a rover, Michael really displayed range whenever he was on the field, and showed that he excelled not only in coverage but also in shutting down the run. Coming out of his stance with speed, Michael is able to penetrate into the backfield and bring a swift ending to any play, getting to the quarterback before they even have a chance to react. Pay close attention to Seton Hall Prep’s defense in 2024.

Michael Wellet III may be undersized at the moment, but give him three years and he will be a very sought after recruit. A reliable centerpiece for Seton Hall Prep for years to come, Michael breaks down and fully wraps up the runner to take him to the ground. As he shuffles his feet in the direction of the play, he is able to stop on a dime when the time is right and shoot the gap to make the play in the backfield. Look for Michael to make some big plays his sophomore year.
