About Matthew

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

1. High game IQ. I can quickly read the offense and anticipate the play. 2. Tackling ability, and strength. I led my team in improvements made in the weight room this spring. 3. I am a fierce player and break up many plays, create turnovers and threaten passers. 4. Leadership. I communicate effectively on the field. I was voted captain as a junior after attending the school for one season.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Fierce, determined, focused, impeccable work ethic, personable, intelligent, loyal and funny.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

National Honors Society through which I was involved with tutoring younger peers, Student Government VP, and I worked as youth camp counselor and life guard. I have a job at a local restaurant bussing tables.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve completed over 100 hours of community service.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I lost two teammates and close family friends when I was in the 8th grade to gun violence. It was devastating for me, our friends and teammates, and the entire community. Their memory inspires me to pursue my dream of playing DI football in college. My family also moved three times in the last three years.

What type of college are you looking for?

Division I football program with a strong academic reputation and business or economic major.
