About Matthew

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I have had to play undersized at times against D1 athletes and have learned that I can still win with better technique than the other guy. So I focus on winning with effort, studying and understanding the game, watching film, and a commitment to perfecting my technique. I look to get better every rep whether in the game, practice, weight room, or my separate training routines.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am somewhat an all-business player. I believe your actions should speak louder than your voice. Lead by example, focus on doing my job, and try to make everyone around me better so the team wins.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I was Freshman All As team my freshman year and All District Academic Team last year.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

We have set up additional volunteer practices in the offseason and summer of which I am one of the leaders.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

After making varsity in Spring Ball my freshman year, I got pneumonia July 2024, was in the hospital for 2 weeks, ICU for 4 days in respiratory distress. I went from 235 to 192lb and lost all muscle gains. 10 doctors said I would not play as a Sophomore. 38 days later I played in the first scrimmage and played in 8 games this year. 10 months later I was 250lb, added 75lb to bench, 100+ to squat.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am interested in Engineering (Aerospace or Mechanical) or Computer Science. I would love to find a school that would give me an opportunity to pursue one of those degrees and play football.
