About Matthew

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My gameplay style is smart and physical. I have good movement skills, I can quickly get out to the next level, and I run with good speed for my position. I have the ability to use my strength and power to create movement on the line of scrimmage while using my hands in run and pass blocking plays.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a strong work ethic and I am always working on my personal development. I believe that hard work is the way to achieve success and I always set high goals for myself. My off-season training prepares me to be the best player and teammate I can be when I step onto the field. I lead by example and I am always respectful of my coaches and my team.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

When I am off the football field, I play basketball and track and field. I have been recognized as a leader and role model by my principal and my teachers. I have also been an honor roll student for the past several years. I volunteer at my local church and enjoy helping others whenever possible.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Football is more than just a game to me. It has been a way to grow as a person, it has made me more disciplined, and it has taught me the value of teamwork. I have learned that personal growth only comes when you work hard and believe in yourself. I am always working to improve my skills and knowledge. I focus my training on getting stronger and improving my speed with every single workout.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One challenge that I faced was beginning my football career later than most of my teammates. Having never played football before, it took a lot of work to perfect my gameplay. I listened to my coaches instructions, I asked for extra help when I needed it, and I studied other players to learn how to be an effective player on the field.

What type of college are you looking for?

I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and on the football field. I am open to all college options and want to find the right match that offers the highest level of competition on the field along with strong focus on academics. I want to continue to grow as a player in a football program that has the same high standards that I have in myself.

  • In 2024, Johnson was a standout up front on a Wallkill Valley team that won the American Conference of the Morris County Youth Football League (MCYFL).
  • The starter at Left Tackle on the O-Line and Defensive Tackle on the D-Line, Johnson is an excellent piece to build the future Lions line around. I tend to like him on the O-Line more at this point. Does a great job of using his feet and hips to get in proper position to block. Does a lot well fundamentally, is just a bit raw. A lot of upside here.
