Expert Analysis
Jonathan Davalos | Prep Redzone Scout
Mason Wattles showed throughout Saturday that he can accelerate upfield in a hurry. And when he meets ball carriers in the hole, he’s capable of shutting down runs almost immediately. There were some growing pains when moving laterally, as his feet would occasionally stall or his pad level would rise when changing direction in space. With continued work on technique and consistency in his movement, Mason has the tools to develop into a complete linebacker.

5’8, 170-pound 2030 MLB/RB prospect out of The Fessenden School (Newton, MA). Also wrestles at a high level.
Current Ranking and Potential Bump : A 2030 who attended a PRZ Next Showcase in the past, one who was also present at the BC Mega Camp. I admittedly didn’t evaluate Wattles too thoroughly, just wanted to make sure he was on our lists and ready for a real evaluation when the time comes. 2030s will likely debut on Prep Redzone New England after this Fall 2026 season. What’s great is, Wattles is already a step ahead in the evaluation/exposure department. The fact that I already know of his name and skill set is a plus. Still more to uncover, Wattles has ample room to grow in pretty much every area, but it was great seeing Wattles work beside talent and experience, it should be a good gauge for him in what is a cutthroat recruiting world. I’d bet he left the venue a better athlete/recruit.

Mason Wattles is a stud at the linebacker position, and he is someone who is going to keep developing and make plays at a high level which is one reason why he is going to be performing at the “RIZE” in Jackson, New Jersey on Saturday, June 27th!

Braving the pending storm and making the trip down I-95 South from Massachusetts, Wattles made the most of the 5-hour trip with another strong performance at the Prep Redzone Next New Jersey Who’s Next Middle School Exposure Camp. He stood out two years ago as the lone sixth-grader to earn recognition after the camp and he did it again as an eighth-grader. Usually the word technician is reserved for describing a Quarterback on the football field, but it’s the only word I can find to describe his play as a Linebacker. Every step was succinct and strong. Every movement was made with excellent technique. Also a wrestler, the skill sets translate.

The youngest prospect to make this list is class of 2030 (don’t rub your eyes, you read that right) prospect Mason Wattles out of New Hampshire. I almost never write about sixth-grade prospects for a number of reasons such as: the reclass factor, the (low) level of football, size or lack there of, the amount of time left until they’re in high school, etc. However, Wattles deserves some recognition. For a sixth-grader I’m sure there were a lot of nerves participating in a talent with a ton of future D1 talent, but the two words I jotted down about him and showed him after camp were speed and hustle. His effort was consistent and unrelenting from the opening whistle. There is a long way to go, but I liked what he brought to the field.
