I just published an article featuring Gwilly. Some outstanding tape. Great contact balance and straight-line speed. Tape is as good as any MAC prospect in Michigan. The thing is, he’s not the twitchiest player in open space. He can juke people out, but he could be much more efficient in doing so.
Still, I think Mahti should end up somewhere in the GLIAC. Testing numbers could determine a lot here.

Gwilly was my #1 player to watch heading into this camp. First off, I really, really like Mahti’s tape. He was the heart and soul of the Utica offense, displaying excellent contact balance and hard north-south running.
So, I wondered if Mahti’s camp performance would back up his performance on tape.
Mahti looks the part. Slim, sprinter build, long limbs. He was consistently the quickest and most explosive RB in the initial agility drills. Then, a slight issue arose during 1on1s with linebackers. Although Mahti is a very explosive and fast player, he has underdeveloped agility in open space. When making a move (juke, stutter step, etc), Mahti stands quite high, and his feet aren’t quite as quick as I’d like.
Still, Mahti’s athletic profile and tape speak for themselves. A little raw in some areas, but still Division 2 traits.

Gwilly immediately showed up on tape. On Dakota’s first drive, he had a few tackles in addition to a timely redzone sack.
Throughout the game, it became incredibly clear that Gwilly was Utica’s #1 defensive player. He’s a very light, undersized linebacker, but plays with incredible speed and decisiveness. Sure, there were points where Mahti got blocked, attacked the wrong hole, etc. All in all, he’s a very reactive player who is probably a future GLIAC prospect. I strongly believe that without Gwilly, Dakota would have put up 70 on Utica.
Mahti is also a great offensive weapon. He was really the only player that was able to get anything going for Utica. On a couple of occasions, Mahti was able to break several tackles and earn his way into the open field. Great vision, contact balance, and a mean stiff-arm.
