Expert Analysis
Paul Gregorian | Prep Redzone Scout
Mayer is one of the more active and violent hitters across southern California and is going to be a nice steal for a college program at the D3+ level. Mayer is a high motor kid they can make tackles sideline to sideline, shows closing speed and the ability to track down ball carriers backside. He is an excellent open field tackler that takes the proper angles and collapses quickly when rushing the passer and packs a punch the point of attack running through contact and playing with violent intentions. He is a plus athlete for a linebacker and should fit nicely at the Will position at the next level and should be closing in on his first offer soon.

Mayer had 180 tackles, 37 for a loss, 5.5 sacks, two blocked field goals, one blocked punt, six forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for Linfield Christian last season.
He has very good short-area quickness for a linebacker which is why Linfield Christian sends him off the edge to block kicks. Mayer gets into the backfield quickly and is a low tackler who forces a lot of fumbles on contact. His lateral quickness is good too and he takes good angles to the ball in pursuit. Mayer has an offer from Saint John’s.

Mayer’s flying under the radar at Linfield Christian, a small Christian school in Temecula grinding in CIF-SS Div. 10-13 ball. At 5’11.5”, 185 pounds, he’s compact but packs a punch—earned a spot on Prep Redzone’s All-Southern California Junior Team Defense, rubbing shoulders with bigger-school talents. Two-way potential as a TE/LB hybrid. Strengths: Low-center gravity for leverage; high-motor pursuit. Development areas: Height might cap him at FCS level unless he blows up testing numbers. Smart kid, watch for him to emerge as a leader in a program that’s building. Undervalued tackling who could surprise at camps.
